Thesis Film, Anchored

here it is, my thesis film...I've been working on this for the past year and a half and now it's finished and I'm graduating tomorrow.

Luke 15:3

Then Jesus told them this parable: "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

When I was first trying to come up with an idea I had the parable of the lost sheep in the back of my head. I really wanted to have a story that was founded with some message or parable. I had a hard time coming up with an idea based of this, and then I just started working on this idea of a man and origami cranes based off a digital painting I had done. The idea sorta fluidly came together after than point and I think that original message kinda worked its way back in. I just really wanted to create a feel good story that I could share with people that might have some emotional value. And I wanted to show how in people's roughest times if you don't focus on the negative God can show you, and use people to show you, an overwhelming hope and faith.

I found these early early sketches

anchor of doubt

and rope of hope:

hope you enjoy!

i am thankful to heard the original intention behind your animation, personally, i saw a concise version of the gospel in your animation.
that the anchored of sin is so heavy, preventing us from getting back to our beloved. But God, through His spirit, still surround us with his peace and by his mercy we came to repentance, and through faith, we reach to the promise land, and rejoice forever with our God. We are all lost in the depth of sin, and there is no other way for us to go, but through faith in Christ. this is my impression of the piece, it is wonderfully made, and present a picture of gospel in my view.
though I want to go further to argue that I actually hoped the man was on the shore, and the woman is in the boat, indicating the relationship between Christ and the Church, that Christ is waiting for the return of His bride.

I really like this film. The render style is interesting, the character designs are great, but I was worried at first it was going to turn into one of those strange artsy student films that you see so often these days. My doubts were completely unfounded, you were really successful in getting the point across and the ending is satisfying. I have to say that you've bucked the popular trend and made something that's worth showing around to my friends. Good job.

thank you so much for all the kind comments...it means a lot. It's so good to hear nice feedback after all the hard work. working on this project for so long, I had my ups and downs and days when I hated it. Sometimes you loose sight of why you're doing it. Sharing this film with people has been the most rewarding part. thanks everybody :)
